Meli Honey Loukamades
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp dry yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups warm water
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Vegetable oil (for frying)
2 tbsp Meli Honey
1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
Chopped walnuts or pistachios (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and dry yeast. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
Add the flour, salt, olive oil, and vanilla extract (if using) to the yeast mixture. Stir until the dough comes together and forms a sticky ball. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Fry the Loukoumades:
In a deep skillet or saucepan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
Using a spoon or your hands, drop small spoonful’s of the dough into the hot oil, frying a few at a time. Fry the loukoumades for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Drizzle with Meli Honey:
While the loukoumades are still warm, arrange them on a serving platter. Drizzle generously with Meli Honey to coat each one in its sweet, rich goodness.
Garnish and Serve:
Optionally, sprinkle the loukoumades with ground cinnamon and garnish with chopped walnuts or pistachios for added texture and flavour.
